Just recently in my Psychology class we watched a film entitled "What the bleep do we know?" This is film is a documentary intertwined with a plot line. The documentary part is a group of scientists sharing their thoughts and findings on how people view reality and how they can or cannot change it. The plot line is a bout a deaf women who struggles to find who she is and what she belongs to, which is clouded by her deep memory of love turned into hate when her husband cheats on her.
After watching this film my reality didn't change, but I did rethink it in a way. It kinda shifted into a new way of thinking about myself and everything that surounds me.
One of the things I really took from this film was "Our mind creates our body." Now, this can really go a million different directions in the ways that it can be interpreted. However, I'll just share how I took it.
Girls and boys, young and old most often have a sense of self-conciousness that they feel. I have it, and chances are everyone reading this does to, it's just a part of life for most people. We look in the mirror and we don't see what we want to see, infact we most often see the complete oposite of what we want to see. If we want to be skinny we see someone who is fat. If we want to be tall we see someone who is short. If we want to be beautiful we see someone who is ugly. And sometimes we obsess and dwell on becoming who we want to be. Or, other times we accept who we see and live with being discontented with ourselves. Both ways of thinking are extreme and in some cases unhealthy. However, what if you learned that you could change who you are by thinking in a new light.
For instance, personally sometimes when I look in the mirror I don't always see a beautiful girl. Now, this isn't everyday, but it is not an uncommon thought of mine. When I look in the mirror, I don't see someone that people desire to be around, or desire to have a relationship with. No, I see someone average. If I stop myself when I look in the mirror and say "the person you are looking at right now, has a beauty that no one else can offer," I believe that the way I see myself will start to alter.
In "What the bleep do we know", the scientists say that our thoughts can control how we come out to be. Our thoughts can change more than what we think they can. I'm not really sure how it works, because I'm not a scientifical person whatsoever, however, they say that every thought is made up of matter. Meaning neurons and cells and that sort of thing. Thoughts exist. They are real, they are tangible and they are changable.
So, my challenge to everyone reading this is to find a thought that they think, and to change it. Wheather it be how you see yourself, how you see someone else or maybe even how you view a situation. When you think that thought, pause and try to see it another way.
